WhatsApp users could soon have an easier time sharing high-quality media, as the messaging app is said to be developing a feature that would enable default HD uploads. Although WhatsApp has been slowly rolling out support for high-resolution images and videos, users currently have to manually select the HD option for each file. However, a recent beta version for Android suggests that this may soon change.
WhatsApp feature enhancement
The latest WhatsApp beta app, version 2.24.5.6, reveals a new option in the app’s storage settings, reports WABetaInfo. This feature allows users to specify their preferred media download quality, eliminating the need to adjust settings for each file. The update includes a separate “Media quality” section that allows users to choose between standard or HD quality for their downloads.
Current restrictions on WhatsApp media sharing
Currently, WhatsApp’s default setting prioritizes standard quality to save storage space. However, users who prefer higher quality media can now choose to download in HD without having to manually adjust each image or video. The app retains the selected quality setting for subsequent downloads, streamlining the sharing process for users who frequently switch high-resolution media.
